I believe we live in an age of disconnection and that this disconnection can be seen in the geography of the places where we live and in our political and economic systems. Three theories inform my art and how I believe we can find new ways of connecting with each other: Social practice, constructivism and psychogeography. Through a combination of these theories art can be used as a vehicle that allows people to interact, create new knowledge about their communities and find new ways to engage with these communities and each other. All of my art is connected to the community, Roanoke, VA, where I live and explores ways that people can create new knowledge about their environments (constructivism), new ways to explore their cities (psychogeography) and to do this in a collaborative way through social and participatory activities (social practice).
